There are a few weeks left before the beautiful Sunday that is the Schenectady Greenmarket moves indoors to Proctors. Indoors or outdoors, it is worth a trek downtown to be given a balloon, to browse organic bread, pickles, produce, plants, humanely raised and slaughtered meat, pottery, crafts, and lotions, listen to music, eat some lunch, picnic on the village green.
Buy some honey, raw or wildflower, buckwheat or clover from Lloyd Spears. Sample beautifully spiced cuisine at Tara Kitchen, dip whole wheat baguette from Our Daily Bread into BuddhaPesto. Try every pickle at Puckers and finally splurge on one of their jars to get you through the week. Stock up on garlic for the winter, take a glass of Maple Tea or Lavender Lemonade to last you the drive back home.
Meet up with a friend. Listen to the music. Spend a morning and take a breath. It is a Market Day in the Village Square and it is worth the trip.

I think the conventional wisdom is that when you play hookey, you don't go and post about it on the interwebs. ;^)
ReplyDeleteGuess I just missed you this morning. The lure of the new coffee shop on Jay Street was too great to bear. And then of course I thought it would be wise to get my ShopRite club card while I was in the area.
I'm impressed that you can make those pickles last a week. Last time I bought them at the Troy Market, they didn't make it to Monday.
ReplyDelete@Daniel B. - These are from the day after Yom Kippur. This morning, I was teaching. Just ask Little Miss Fussy ;^P
ReplyDelete@Jon in Albany - Truth be told, that last batch lasted the week only because we had an open batch of Ba Tempte's left to go through. We're a 3 qt of pickles a week kind of family. Quote from this afternoon: "Dina, do you want a pickle or a popsicle?" "I want pickle."
